I have been working in the IT industry for nearly twenty years, and there is one saying that I have heard over and over again.

"It's just common sense!"

Now my time in the IT industry has been spent behind a help desk counter for a big box retailer, in the public education sector as a network administrator, IT support for a major sports team, and an Information Security Manager for a retailer. Currently I am a Security Consultant and use my experience and knowledge to help others. Along this crazy journey that I have been on, I have come to a conclusion that what is common to me is acquired knowledge gained.

So this saying that "It's just common sense!" upsets me more and more when I hear people say it. This does not just happen in IT, but in everyday life, we say it to our kids. It's not to be mean, it is just something we have all learned to say in times of frustration.

So what happens when common sense, isn't so common? Well, as it pertains to Cybersecurity, that is why I have decided to share my knowledge with others. I want to help others to better understand the importance of information security as it applies to your daily life and to your online digital footprint. I want to help small or large businesses and public education with staying aware of new emerging threats on the horizon. I want to educate our youth on how to be safer online. I want common sense to be just that, common to everyone.
